Community Programs Meeting Re-Cap

A meeting for people interested in saving and operating the community programs to serve adults with type 1 and type 2 diabetes was held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 18 at the Diabetes Partnership of Cleveland Offices in Beachwood.

Attendees of the meeting included current community partners, potential partners to carry on specific areas of our mission and former executive staff.  The meeting was facilitated by DPC Board Member Ann Williams, PhD, RN, CDE.  Tom Bennett, Executive Director was on hand to provide an overview of the current state of the organization, how the organization ended up here and to provide resources and information to community members interested in our former and current program offerings.

We are pleased to share with the community at large that several current community partners, a potential community partner and others stepped up to work on carrying on the work of the Diabetes Partnership in various aspects.  These areas include, diabetes education and support, research, community based education, school based education, and professional development.

Sadly, we have yet to find a community partner to take over our emergency insulin program post dissolution.  This life saving service allows an individual a 30 day supply of to insulin that would not otherwise be available due to financial constraints.  We will continue to look for a partner to carry this forward.

For more information about the meeting or how to get involved, please contact Tom Bennett, Executive Director at 216.591.0800 or tbennett@diabetespartnership.org.
